Participating in the international course on research methods and biostatistics was an incredibly enriching experience. The opportunity to learn from lecturers from various countries provided a diverse and comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Each expert brought unique insights and methodologies, broadening my knowledge base and exposing me to different perspectives in research and biostatistics.
One of the highlights of the course was the interaction with international students. This diverse learning environment fostered a rich exchange of ideas and cultures, enhancing my educational experience. Collaborating with peers from around the world not only helped me build a global network but also provided valuable lessons in teamwork and communication across different cultural contexts.
Additionally, the mentorship from the tutors was invaluable. The guidance and support they offered throughout the course were instrumental in my academic and personal growth. The tutors' dedication to our learning and their willingness to share their expertise made the course exceptionally rewarding. I left the course feeling more confident in my research skills and motivated to apply this knowledge in my future endeavours.

Early Life and Education
Oryem Denis Amuku was born on 16 January 1987 in Lira Kato, a village in the northern region of Uganda. This area was deeply affected by war and poverty during his childhood. Despite the challenging environment, Denis demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination to overcome adversity.
His early education took place in a turbulent period, necessitating a partial relocation to Karamoja, where he pursued his primary education amidst significant instability.
These formative years shaped his unwavering perseverance and commitment to improving the health and well-being of his community.
Denis completed his Uganda Certificate of Education at Adilang Senior Secondary School in 2007. Motivated by a passion for healthcare, he pursued a Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing at Kalongo School of Nursing and Midwifery, graduating in May 2011.
His desire for continued professional growth led him to enroll in a Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing at Lira School of Comprehensive Nursing, where he graduated in November 2015.
His quest for advanced medical expertise brought him to Gulu University, where he is currently in his fifth and final year of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program.
This rigorous academic journey has been enriched by his participation in the FREYA International School for Research and Project Implementation, where he completed a course in biostatistics between June and November 2024. This exposure broadened his knowledge of research methodologies and statistical analysis, laying a solid foundation for his future aspirations.
Professional Experience
Denis has amassed a wealth of practical experience in the healthcare field, underscoring his commitment to serving his community.
From 2013 to 2017, he worked as an Enrolled Nurse with Agago District Local Government. In this role, he provided primary healthcare services, performed patient assessments, administered treatments, and conducted health education sessions.
His work also involved collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and participating in community outreach programs that addressed the health needs of underserved populations.
In 2018, Denis advanced his career by joining Hoima Regional Referral Hospital under the Ministry of Health Uganda as an Assistant Nursing Officer.
Over a two-year tenure, he delivered direct patient care, contributed to patient assessment and treatment planning, and worked closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic healthcare.
Additionally, he played a vital role in the training and supervision of junior nursing staff and students, demonstrating his leadership and mentorship abilities.
His strong interpersonal skills further enhanced communication with patients and colleagues, fostering a collaborative healthcare environment.
