Damyano holds a robust academic background in clinical psychiatry (DCP), bolstered by extensive certifications and practical experience. As an accredited Children Accelerated Trauma Technique (CATT) therapist and epilepsy care specialist, Damyano has over eight years of experience in mental health care, including five years in humanitarian settings such as refugee and IDP camps.
This expertise is complemented by a Certificate in Good Clinical Practice and ongoing public health studies, reinforcing a multifaceted approach to mental well-being. Damyano played a pivotal role in developing and modifying Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) tools for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs in Uganda, with five innovative tools adopted globally by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) on July 2, 2021.
Renowned for exceptional analytical skills, Damyano leverages data to inform decisions, as evidenced by winning the IRC Uganda Impact Challenge Fund to pilot a trauma-focused intervention for schoolchildren in Palabek.
As the MHPSS focal person, Damyano provided technical support to HIV/TB clinics, engaging in comprehensive planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation. Leadership and collaborative skills were honed through coordinating MHPSS working groups and leading psychosocial support during Uganda's second wave of COVID-19. This role expanded expertise in emergency preparedness, peer support, group counseling, and tele-counseling.
At Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH), Damyano organized MH GAP training for Village Health Teams (VHTs) across 101 villages, enhancing capacity building in mental health services. Additionally, Damyano has successfully supervised mental health nurses and counselors, designed and implemented livelihood projects, and conducted quality improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of care.
Damyano actively participates in research and data management, contributing to mental health through innovative solutions and evidence-based practices. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, Damyano efficiently manages departmental reporting, data, and time, underscoring a commitment to continuous professional development and excellence in mental health care.
